Orange Petals

Well today I had this really awesome (in my mind, at least) idea for my daily photograph. I had it completely visualized, I had all the materials, and I knew it was gonna be great! After about two hours of preparation, my idea fell apart. Turns out, Super Glue doesn’t stick to Skittles. Seriously. So I tried a few other things to achieve my artistic vision, but in the end, nothing turned out the way I had planned. Eventually I ran out of time and had to go to work, which meant when I came home I had to produce something for the day. Out came the flowers. After a (relatively) short amount of time, I got my shot for the day. It may not be the most original photograph ever, but I think it would fit in just fine on a calendar or something, so I’m counting it as a big win…

Here’s the straight-out-of-camera shot…

…and here’s the after, with colors balanced based on my homemade grey card, contrast, sharpening, and just some over all nitpicking…

Exposure: 0.4 sec;   f/5;   ISO 100;  70mm; Pentax K5 with Sigma 70mm f2.8 DG Macro

Tomorrow I’m going to find a way to make those Skittles stick!

Well what do you know? Me? Not much. But what I do know is this; the more I looked at the photo above, the less I liked it. Especially when compared to the SOOC shot, the “finished” shot really looks horrible to me. The colors are too bright, almost hard on the eyes, the shadows still too pronounced, and, well, like I said, I just don’t like it. So I had to do it again.
And here it is:

OK. That’s it for this post, I promise!
