Zoo End

The final installment of the Zoo! mini-series features creatures that I (and a lot of people) find utterly fascinating. Some find them repulsive or scary while others like them as pets, and still others like to eat them! I present to you, the reptiles!

I assume these are some kind of iguana, since there is no sign by their enclosure to identify them.

The rhinoceros iguana, a rather large and intimidating looking fellow that is actually fairly docile and enjoy bugs and fruits primarily.

A happy tortoise smiles for the camera. I’m not sure which type this is exactly, I will have to write all of these names down the next time I go to the zoo.

I’ve seen this little guy’s immediate family members on some of my hikes around South Mountain. Some of his larger cousins can reach over six feet in length. You can see how difficult it would be to spot him in his natural terrain, which is why you really have to keep your ears open and watch for movement if you go hiking in the desert.

A beautiful snake, I didn’t catch his name. I love the black and yellow.

This guy was a little camera shy, and tried to hide himself up at the top of his cage. He reminds me of Kaa from Disney’s animated version of The Jungle Books.

A Green Tree Boa. Not much of a biter, but he’d really like to give you a hug…

And that’s it for now. Go out and make a reptilian friend today!
